Behind The Lens

Hello & welcome behind the lens, my name is Myisha Kinberg!

I am a daughter of God. I open with this because I struggled with identity my entire life until I met the Lord and was given the beautiful irreplaceable and unshakable identity in Christ. Before I am a photographer or any other title, I am a daughter.

***

I was born in Miami, Florida and adopted at 10 days old, I used to live in what felt like a constant identity crisis. I grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan in a Jewish home. Since I was a young girl, art has been a great passion & comfort, I loved being busy with my hands and expression with my body whether it was dancing, singing, sewing or painting - I loved it all. Despite my love for art, I studied computer science in college which drew me to attend school in Jacksonville, Florida.

While working at a tech job in Florida, I woke up one day with a yearning to do photography in 2019. I was a bit more impulsive back then so after researching cameras and consulting a few friends, I purchased my first Canon camera that same week.

Little me shooting around 10 years old!

But that’s not the whole story!

Shortly after the camera purchase, my life turned upside down, while the business was growing, depression was seeping in. This all time low revealed a spiritual lack in my life and the Father began to draw me unto Himself. Having been raised Jewish, I knew pretty much nothing about Jesus yet that didn’t stop my pursuit. I simultaneously grew in photography and fell in love with God until one day in 2021 after having a radical encounter with the Holy Spirit alone in my apartment I gave my life to Jesus. He became Lord of my life, my mind, my camera and everything connected to me. The last three years have been a journey of releasing my life & all my plans and growing in Christ.

Though the camera was purchased before being born again, the gift & talent has always belonged to the Lord. There have been many seasons of laying the camera down completely to focus on the Lord and understanding His heart for this gift. I am continually drawn back to learning about daughtership and the spirit of adoption (Romans 8).

Why Peculiar?

Photography is not “purpose” or “business” for me. It is the art of capturing an irreplaceable moment in time. With one click, emotions, age, location, wardrobe, milestones, family, smiles, and hairstyles, the creation itself is remembered in a digital memory file. Taking photos has become a regular part of many people’s everyday life, but the art of photography takes intentionality to pursue.

After praying one day, I heard “Peculiar Lens”. Immediately I was reminded of the verse 1 Peter 2:9 which has become a foundational scripture in my life.

***

“But yet are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a PECULIAR people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”

~1 Peter 2:9

Vision

The vision of Peculiar Lens is to capture & tell the creative stories and holy encounters of God's sons & daughters.

Values

Joy

The JOY of the Lord is my strength (Neh 8:10)! A shoot without joy is simply boring, the goal is to have FUN and laugh together as we partner with the Lord to bring each vision to life. There’s no need to be intimidated, relax, its going to be AMAZING!!

Romans 14:17, Nehemiah 8:10

Honor

God created each of us either male or female and He calls us either a son or a daughter. Honor reminds us to view each other as children of God and assign heaven’s value to one another in our actions, speech, and conduct.

1 Peter 2:9, Hebrews 12:14, Genesis 1:27

Forgiveness

Jesus forgives sin, we forgive people! Forgiveness is simply releasing a person from a debt that they do not owe us. I believe in forgiving quickly for everything and not letting one seed of offense take root! If something bothers you, please expose it quickly!

Matthew 7:14-15, Ephesians 4:26-27

Truth

I stand on biblical truth. For much of my life, I was lied to and deceived but God set me free and renewed my mind. It’s important to me to operate in honesty and truth at all times. I will not lie or exaggerate and ask that you honor me the same way.

John 14:6, 1 Peter 1:14-16, Ephesians 4:25, Leviticus 19:11-13

Communication

Let’s have 100% of the conversation, don’t leave things out! If something does not make sense ask a question! We have a limited amount of time in each shoot and getting to the root quickly allows us to proceed in clarity. Honest communication does not lead to offense, it removes it.

James 1:19-21, Proverbs 18:21, Colossians 4:6
